Undermined Devotion

I miss the first month of relationships.

You know what I mean. That honeymoon period where everything is butterflies and rainbows. The feelings you have during that first month or so are the absolute best.

You want to spend all the time you possible can with your significant other. You get butterflies in your stomach and swoon when they so much as look at you. Don’t even get me started on the kisses. All of your spare time is spent dreaming about and thinking about them. You might even find yourself writing their name in your notebooks like an elementary school girl or catch yourself drawing hearts and realize you were thinking about them. You’re practically consumed by this new relationship, and you can’t imagine that anything could be better. You just know that this is what happiness feels like. You would be content spending the rest of forever with this person. Knowing that you belong to someone and you belong to them feels like the greatest thing.

So yes, while being in love is great, I appreciate the honeymoon stage of relationships as well. It isn’t as messy as love.

I want a fling that only lasts as long as this stage, and then I want to go to college and find something real. That’s probably too much to ask for.
